Horses have long been an iconic part of many cultures for thousands of years. If you close your eyes and think of horses, you might envision a herd running free in a desolate landscape with the sun setting in the background. Such a beautiful sight. When one has the opportunity to watch a herd of horses in real time, one would see the many behaviors, signs, and communications between the herd members. The vibration of skin, the flick of an ear or the swing of the tail all have meaning and importance. Body language is how horses communicate. They pick up on the most minute nuances and movements. As prey animals, horses have specialized senses to pick up on body language the human emits. It has been determined that humans communicate anywhere from 55-90% by body language. Most of the time we are not aware of just how much we are communicating with this highly visible language.
These highly specialized animals have survived for millions of years by being hypervigilant and working together in a herd society. They have a lot to teach us about acceptance, teamwork and empathy. Horses live in the moment and don’t care about rules or lists or accomplishments. They can teach us a lot about how to slow down and notice the little things in life that make a difference. Humans are usually purpose driven and horses are the exact opposite of this mentality. By slowing down we are faced, at times, with the things that are covered up by our busyness. Horses don’t let us fake it. They have an internal honesty meter. They are some of the best soul barometers here on our planet. Let these creatures heal you from the inside out as their electromagnetic field around their hearts lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety and give you a boost of hope!
