About the Mounted Patrol
The Houston Police Department Mounted Patrol, reestablished in 1984, is a cornerstone of community safety and engagement. With 32 horses on patrol, the unit specializes in:
- Crowd control and crime deterrence in downtown Houston and Hermann Park
- Navigating terrains inaccessible to vehicles or foot patrols
- Community outreach through demonstrations for schools and civic groups
